SJG Print & Design didn't need another commercial. It needed its owner to become the person the industry already knew.
Episode 1 — Inside the Print Hustle. The episode that started the series, shot at SJG.
Print shops sell a commodity. Banners, shirts, signs, stickers — the same list every competitor in town puts on the same kind of website. When the product is interchangeable, marketing collapses into price, and the only lever left is being cheaper than the shop down the road.
The obvious move was a promotional video for SJG. Show the presses, show the turnaround, cut to a phone number. That video would have looked like every other print shop's video, and it would have competed on exactly the ground SJG could not win on.
We stopped trying to advertise the shop, and built a show around its owner instead.
NTV Presents: SHOPS is a maker-world series where Sean visits other shops — their machines, their people, their craft. Not competitors to be beaten. Peers to be introduced.
A commercial asks an industry to look at you. A show gives you a reason to walk into everybody else's building.
Because it is a series rather than a campaign, it does not expire. A commercial has a shelf life measured in months. An episode library compounds.
A print shop competing on price and turnaround against interchangeable local competitors.
The owner positioned as the connector in his own industry — the one who tours the shops and introduces the makers.
That repositioning is the asset. Sean is no longer one more supplier bidding for a job; he is a recognisable figure other shop owners want to be featured by. Being the host changes who takes your call, which rooms you are invited into, and what a conversation starts from.
It also creates something a commercial structurally cannot: a reason for other businesses in the same industry to reach out to you.
The series is the evidence. Episode 1 is SJG's own shop floor. Every episode after it is a different business that agreed to open its doors to Sean — four more shops, on camera, in his industry.

“Video now drives our business, from our ads to our daily content. Working with Eric has now become the fuel to our business.”
— Sean, SJG Print & DesignThe problem SJG had is not a print problem. It belongs to every business where the product is broadly similar to the competition and the marketing has nowhere to go but price — trades, home services, suppliers, local manufacturers, professional services.
The answer is rarely a better advert. It is usually a reason for the owner to be worth watching.
