Behind the Scenes of the Chick-fil-A x Akins High School Media Day

August 27, 2026 · Eric Sattler

Some shoots start with a clear picture of exactly how the day will unfold. This one didn’t.

For the Chick-fil-A x Akins High School media day, Eric and Vicente stepped on set knowing the goal, but not exactly what the energy would feel like once the cameras started rolling. That uncertainty ended up becoming part of what made the shoot work.

Finding the Rhythm on Set

There is only so much you can figure out before production starts.

Once the Akins High School athletes came in and we started moving through setups, the ideas became more specific. We could react to the space, the personalities in front of the camera, and what was working in real time.

Instead of forcing every moment into a predetermined plan, the shoot started finding its own rhythm.

That is when the work became less about thinking through every decision and more about responding to what was happening in front of us.

Video and Photography Working Together

This media day brought NVision Films and VC Photography together on the same set, with Eric and Vicente creating alongside each other.

Video and photography require different decisions, but the energy can feed both. A strong pose, movement, lighting choice, or interaction can create an idea for the next setup.

As the day continued, that back-and-forth helped the production build momentum.

The goal was not to make the video side and photography side feel disconnected. It was to create one environment where both could find moments that fit the athletes and the shoot.

Getting Into a Flow State

One of the biggest things Eric talks about in the BTS is the shift from not knowing exactly what to expect to eventually finding a flow state.

That point does not always happen immediately.

It comes when the crew settles in, communication gets simpler, the athletes get more comfortable, and everyone starts trusting the process.

Once that happened, the shoot stopped feeling like a series of separate setups. It started feeling connected.

For us, that is one of the best parts of production: when preparation gives you enough structure to start, but being present on set takes the work somewhere you could not completely predict beforehand.
