Inside the Akins High School Football Media Day with VC Photography
A football media day is about more than getting everyone in front of a camera. The lighting, atmosphere, posing, and interaction with each athlete all shape the final result.
At Akins High School Varsity Football Media Day in Austin, VC Photography built the shoot around bold, cinematic portraits and an experience designed to bring energy out of the Akins Eagles.

Building the Media Day Look
The finished photographs lean into a dramatic sports aesthetic: blue atmosphere, controlled lighting, strong contrast, and poses that give each athlete room to show some personality.
Some frames are built around traditional football elements like helmets and uniforms. Others bring in details such as the Texas flag, personal accessories, and more stylized athlete poses.
That variety matters because a media day has to produce more than one hero image. The goal is to create a library of visuals that can work across social media, recruiting content, athlete branding, game-day graphics, and season-long team communication.
Directing Athletes, Not Just Photographing Them
Strong sports portraits depend on what happens before the shutter fires.
Athlete direction helps turn a simple stance into an intentional portrait. Small changes in body position, where an athlete looks, how equipment is held, or how someone moves through the set can completely change the energy of an image.
The behind-the-scenes footage also gives athletes a chance to talk about the experience themselves. That perspective shows another side of media day: the session is not only about producing images, but also about creating an environment where athletes can feel confident in front of the camera.
Content Built for the Season
VC Photography's media day work is designed around the different ways athletic programs and individual athletes use visual content.
That can include cinematic sports portraits, individual and team photography, social media content, recruiting visuals, athlete branding, and graphics used throughout the football season.
For coaches, athletic directors, and booster clubs, that makes media day part of a larger content strategy rather than a one-day photo session.
